Description
Matawan’s Main Street and surrounding areas were home to many interesting people. A New Jersey governor was born here, a state senator lived on Main Street, and millionaires purchased property around town. In the 1700s, Matawan was notable for its important role in the American Revolution and the bloody skirmishes that occurred here. However, in the 1800s, it was the location of masquerade balls, posh garden weddings, and elegant home parties.
This special booklet (8.5 by 11 inches in size, and in full color) identifies 46 of Matawan’s historical homes and describes a few of the people who once lived here. You will note that there is a QR code displayed next to each location. If you scan it, you will be directed to the Matawan Historical Society website; there, you will find a more detailed account of the people and events that occurred at that residence.
This booklet is a valuable resource for those interested in Matawan’s history. You will want to hold on to this booklet – as the years go by, you will find that it continues to be of value.
