Charles, born June 14, 1949 in Newark, was the middle of three children of Charles Francis Morse, SR (1922-1993) and Olga Helen Roy (1920-2001). Charles SR was employed as a carpenter and served in the Coast Guard in WWII. The family moved to Cliffwood in the late 1950s, and Charles graduated from Matawan High School in 1967 – his yearbook photo indicated that he would become a carpenter like his father. After graduation the family moved to Keyport.

On September 18, 1967, Charles enlisted I the Marine Corps and that day left for boot camp at Parris Island, SC. Upon completion of basic, he underwent advanced infantry training at Camp Lejeune, NC. He subsequently was assigned to “E” Company, 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marines which had been deployed to Da Nang, South Vietnam since April of 1965.

While on patrol in Thừa Thiên-Huế north of Da Nang 0n March 14, 1968, Charles was killed by enemy small arms fire. His body was returned to New Jersey and was buried in April at the St. Joseph Cemetery in Keyport with full military honors.

Charles’ sister Carol died in 2008, and his younger brother Kevin, who followed in his brother’s footsteps and enlisted in the Marines in 1975, passed away in 2021. Charles is survived by four nephews and nieces.
