Sandford’s Pharmacy (Last Location)
The very first movie theater in Matawan was at this location showing silent films movies such as “the Perils of Pauline.” Mrs. Leary masterfully played the piano to go with the mood of what was on the screen. In the summer there was no air conditioning and shows would move outside to the vacant lot in the rear of the building.
Sandford’s Pharmacy moved to this location. Sandford shared this building with Harris Hardware. At that time, the building was higher than street level and there was a porch with steps which goods were displayed.
